đź“Ł How Facilitating A Webinar Is Different To Facilitating In Person Workshop
For those who have gotten really used to being in a room full of people, making that switch online can be quite daunting. It can also be quite difficult because there's a lot more to handle when it comes to an online webinar. In-person, you walk in, you've got everything at your fingertips and you just deliver. When we're delivering a webinar, you have everything digitally at your fingertips and there are so many things to think about; there could be music, there could be letting the participants in, managing the chats, etc. There's so much to keep in mind.
Here Are 5 Tips On How To Make The Switch
🌟 Be “On” When The Camera Is On
When it comes to being online, the moment you flip that switch and that camera is on; your whole audience can see you. And so we need to make sure that we're ready. You’re standing in the spot you’re going to be delivering our webinar from, you’re looking the way that you want to look, and you’re feeling the way that you want to feel. The moment that the camera is on and your audience is looking at you, you’re “on”.
🌟 Housekeeping Is An Ongoing Chore
When we are running a webinar, housekeeping is a lot more directive, engaging and important! In a webinar, housekeeping revolves around helping our audience understand the technology as well as understanding the agenda and the break times. Make sure you are very clear with your instructions, “pop the answer in the chat”, “click Go To Breakout Room”, “rename yourself to your full name” etc. and you are consistently providing instructions or housekeeping to keep your audience understand exactly what needs to happen next.
🌟 Keep Your Energy Up
You need to keep your energy up because an audience on the other side of the screen gets bored really easily as it is an audience that is going to give you only about half the energy that you give them in an in-person environment in the online environment, even harder. So you need to make sure that you are consistently up and look really excited in their faces but in your own way. So everybody energy will be different and everyone's approach will be different. You need to make sure that whatever approach you take your energy is always up.
🌟 Have A Tech-savvy Team
Your team needs to be tech-savvy. If something goes wrong in the online environment, you do not have the capacity to make it work without being distracted away from your audience. So make sure to have a team who are tech-savvy, who are well briefed, well-informed, and has everything they need at their fingertips for you to be able to just deliver the content effectively.
🌟 Keep Changing Things Up
In the online environment, people's attention spans will last for about 15 to 20 minutes MAX.
We need to keep changing things up, ask people to type something in the chat, ask people to write something in their workbook, ask people to speak and share what it is that they've learned. Ask people to do a poll, put them into breakout rooms. Use the technology that is provided through event tech platforms or webinar platforms in order to make sure you keep changing things up to keep up engagement.

Those are five tips on how to make the switch from facilitating in-person to facilitating webinars.
